Should Men Race HYROX Pro?
Open-to-Pro Calculator
Men who raced both divisions finished a median 9.0% slower in Pro than in Open (11,499 athletes). An Open time of 1:25:00 predicts about 1:32:33 in Pro, faster than 22% of Pro men.

What the prediction looks like for Men
Predicted Pro times for a range of Open times for men. The range is the 10th to 90th percentile of what athletes with that Open time actually ran in Pro. "Pro percentile" is the share of the 43,718 Pro men results in our data that the predicted time beats.

HYROX Pro vs Open weights
Pro is one step heavier on the five weighted stations. SkiErg, rowing, burpee broad jumps and the 8 x 1 km runs are identical. The wall ball target stays 3.00 m for men and 2.70 m for women. Full detail on the HYROX weights by division page.
| Division | Sled push | Sled pull | Farmers carry | Sandbag lunges | Wall ball |

Which stations get harder in Pro
For 7,781 men and 3,757 women with split data in both divisions, total running time barely moved (median +0.6% for men, +0.0% for women) while total station time rose 18% for men and 18% for women. The extra Pro time is almost all station work.
The table below compares median station splits in each field. These are different groups of athletes (Pro entrants are faster to begin with), so a gap here mixes weight and athlete quality. The sled push and sled pull show the weight effect most clearly, because Pro athletes are faster almost everywhere else.
| Station | Open Men | Pro Men | Open Women | Pro Women |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SkiErg 1,000 m | 4:27 | 4:15 (-0:12) | 5:09 | 4:52 (-0:17) |
| Sled push 50 m | 2:52 | 3:32 (+0:40) | 2:44 | 3:48 (+1:04) |
| Sled pull 50 m | 4:41 | 5:34 (+0:53) | 5:29 | 5:48 (+0:19) |
| Burpee broad jumps 80 m | 5:15 | 4:14 (-1:01) | 6:14 | 5:02 (-1:12) |
| Row 1,000 m | 4:46 | 4:31 (-0:15) | 5:23 | 5:04 (-0:19) |
| Farmers carry 200 m | 2:02 | 2:02 (0:00) | 2:10 | 2:29 (+0:19) |
| Sandbag lunges 100 m | 5:00 | 4:51 (-0:09) | 4:52 | 5:02 (+0:10) |
| Wall balls 100 | 6:28 | 6:29 (+0:01) | 6:08 | 6:07 (-0:01) |
| Running, 8 x 1 km | 39:53 | 35:55 (-3:58) | 44:32 | 39:35 (-4:57) |

When to make the switch
Use the predicted Pro percentile, not just the predicted time. The median Pro men finish is 1:19:09, so the Pro field is faster than the Open field before weights are considered. Our data puts the median Open men finish at 1:25:55.
Faster half of Pro (predicted percentile 50% or higher): the step is realistic. Make sure your sled and carry work is already heavy.
Middle of the Pro field (25% to 50%): you can finish, but you will be in the slower half. Fine if you want the harder race, less so if you want a ranking.
Slowest quarter of Pro (under 25%): a faster, better-ranked result is likely in Open for now. Your Open time ranks higher than your Pro time would.
Do not decide on one number. Check your sled push and pull against the Pro weights, see how a target ranks with the percentile calculator, and read the Pro vs Open guide.

Methodology and sources
We matched athletes by results slug who finished at least one Open race and at least one Pro race of the same sex in the RoxUpdates dataset (public results from 64,180 Pro and 290,440 Open finishes). For each athlete we take their fastest Open time and their fastest Pro time, which gives 11,499 men and 5,386 women after dropping 342 pairs where the Pro time was more than 20% faster or 60% slower than the Open time (usually identity or timing errors). We fit ln(Pro) = a + b ln(Open) separately for men and women, add a small age-group offset (shrunk towards zero for small groups), and take the 10th and 90th percentile of the residual as the range. Men: Pro = exp(0.270) x Open^0.958 before the age offset. On a 2,236-man and 1,050-woman held-out sample the median absolute error was 5.8% and 5.5%. Percentiles come from the full Open and Pro result sets in the same data. Caveats: athletes who have raced both are people who chose to try Pro, so the numbers describe them rather than every Open finisher; and best-of-several-races times favour athletes with more races. FAQ
HYROX Pro vs Open FAQ
How much slower is HYROX Pro than Open?
For the same athletes, the median best Pro time is 9.0% slower than their best Open time for men and 8.0% slower for women, across 16,885 athletes who raced both. About 14% of men and 14% of women were faster in Pro.
What are the HYROX Pro weights?
Pro Men push 202 kg and pull 153 kg on the sleds, carry 2 × 32 kg, lunge with a 30 kg sandbag and throw a 9 kg ball. Pro Women use 152 kg and 103 kg, 2 × 24 kg, 20 kg and 6 kg. See every division.
When should I switch to HYROX Pro?
A practical test is your predicted Pro percentile. If the calculator puts your Pro time in the faster half of the Pro field, Pro is a reasonable step. If it puts you in the slowest quarter, another Open season with heavier sled and carry work will serve you better.
How accurate is the predicted Pro time?
On athletes held out of the fit, the median error was 5.8% for men and 5.5% for women, and about 80% of results landed inside the stated range. It is a statistical estimate, not a promise for your race.
Can you be faster in Pro than in Open?
Yes, for a minority. 14% of men and 14% of women who raced both had a best Pro time faster than their best Open time, usually because they trained for the heavier stations or raced Open before they were fit.
Which stations get harder in Pro?
The heavier stations. For athletes with splits in both divisions, total running time was about 0.6% different for men and 0.0% for women, but total station time was 18% and 18% longer. Sled push and pull cost the most.
Does age group change the Pro prediction?
Slightly. After matching Open time, older age groups run a little slower in Pro than younger ones: the Open to Pro ratio for men is 8.4% at 25 to 29 and 10.2% at 50 to 54. Pick your age group in the calculator to apply the adjustment.
Is this an official HYROX tool?
No. RoxUpdates is independent and not affiliated with HYROX. The prediction comes from public race results of athletes who raced both Open and Pro, and the weights come from the published rulebooks. Check your event rules before entering.
