Weights by division

Race weight is set by division, so the same 200 m takes a different effort in each. Doubles teams use the matching Open or Pro weights and share the work. Full table on the Hyrox weights tool.

Computed with the estimator's own plan model. The default pace for each division is solved so that the default plan equals that division's median split, then one input is changed per row. Fatigue is not modelled, so the longest sets and fewest stops look better here than they usually do on the day.

Pacing and technique tips

  • Pick up both kettlebells together with a hip hinge, stand tall and pack the shoulders down and back before you walk.
  • Walk briskly in short steps. Long strides and running make the kettlebells swing and use up grip faster.
  • Plan your break before you start, for example 100 m or 150 m unbroken, then one rest. Several short breaks cost more in total.
  • Set both kettlebells down together rather than dropping them, and take 5 to 10 seconds before picking them up.
  • Grip is trainable. Dead hangs, barbell holds and heavy carries pay back quickly on this station.

Training to improve it

A four-week build from the farmers carry training guide. Time your sessions and feed the numbers back into the estimator.

Four-week farmers carry training progression
Week 1 3 × 100m farmers carry at race weight, 2min rest. Aim for unbroken carries.
Week 2 2 × 150m farmers carry at race weight, 2min rest. Note where grip starts to fail.
Week 3 2 × 200m farmers carry at race weight, 2min rest. Target 1 break or less per set.
Week 4 (peak) 1 × 200m farmers carry at race weight after a 1km row — simulate the race sequence.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the farmers carry take at HYROX?

The median farmers carry split is 2:02 for Open Men, 2:11 for Open Women, 2:02 for Pro Men and 2:30 for Pro Women, from season 8 results. The fastest 10% of Open Men finish in 1:35 and the slowest quarter take 2:25 or more.

What weight is the HYROX farmers carry?

The carry is 200 m with one kettlebell in each hand: 2 × 24 kg for Open Men, 2 × 16 kg for Open Women, 2 × 32 kg for Pro Men and 2 × 24 kg for Pro Women. The weight is per hand, so the total load is double the single kettlebell.

Can you put the kettlebells down in the farmers carry?

Yes, resting is allowed and there is no penalty for setting them down, though at multi-lap venues a missed lap adds a 3 minute penalty. Most athletes stop at least once. Plan one break, for example after 100 m or 150 m, instead of several short ones, which cost more in total.

How do I get faster at the farmers carry?

Train grip directly. Use dead hangs, barbell holds and progressive carries from 50 m up to 200 m at race weight over 6 to 8 weeks. On the day, walk briskly in short steps, keep the shoulders down and back and set both kettlebells down together.

What is a good farmers carry time at HYROX?

Under 1:46 is top quarter for Open Men and under 1:57 for Open Women. Under 1:35 and 1:46 is the top 10%. Beating the median for your division, 2:02 for Open Men and 2:11 for Open Women, means you are faster than half the field.

How accurate is the farmers carry estimator?

Treat it as arithmetic on your own numbers. Time is work plus rests, and the default pace is solved so the default plan equals your division's median split. It does not model fatigue inside the station or no-reps, so test the plan in training and adjust the pace field to what you can actually hold.

How this is calculated

Benchmarks are real split times from 131,355 season 8 (2025/26) HYROX race results in the RoxUpdates athlete dataset (82,887 athletes across all seasons, data checked 2026-10-29). For the farmers carry, 103,247 splits from the four singles divisions are used, 54,162 Open Men, 24,801 Open Women, 15,905 Pro Men, 8,379 Pro Women. Season 8 only, so weights and rules match today's. Finishes under 45 or over 240 minutes and implausible splits are removed.

Percentiles come from a 21-point quantile table (P1, P5, P10 to P95 in steps of 5, P99) per division, with linear interpolation between points. "Beats X%" means that share of finishers in your division had a slower split. P10 is the time that 10% of finishers beat.

The plan model is time = work + rests, using your own pace numbers. The default pace for each division is solved so the default plan equals that division's median split. It does not model fatigue inside the station or no-reps, so treat the result as a target to test in training.

RoxUpdates is independent and not affiliated with HYROX. Weights come from the official rulebook as checked on the Hyrox weights tool. Doubles rows are team splits where partners share the work, so they are not comparable with singles.
