Pro Men moved from 1:19:18 to 1:19:24 and Pro Women from 1:24:51 to 1:25:41. The path is not a straight line: Open Men's 2025 (S8) median of 1:23:35 was 1.4 minutes slower than the 2025 (S7) median of 1:22:12, which suggests the mix of events and first-time racers in a given half-year matters as much as fitness.

Method: Athletes are matched on registered name slug, division and nationality. Only athletes whose races fall in different season slices (2024 S7, 2025 S7, 2025 S8, 2026 S8) are kept, so race order is certain; athletes with two races in one slice are excluded. Change = finish time of the later race minus the earlier, median across athletes. Race order is chronological by slice, not by exact date. Link to this finding

Permalink: https://www.roxupdates.com/state-of-hyrox-2026/ · Dataset (CSV): https://www.roxupdates.com/data/state-of-hyrox-2026.csv

Methodology

Source. Official finisher results published by HYROX at results.hyrox.com, collected by RoxUpdates for Season 7 and Season 8 events (201 events, 2024 to August 2026). Each row is one finisher (an athlete, or a team in Doubles and Pro Doubles) with an official finish time and, where published, run and workout totals, nationality and age group.

Cleaning. The archive holds 659,450 rows. We removed 144 with a finish time under 45 minutes or over 4 hours, 25,990 rows with no usable time or a test name and 2,559 duplicates (the same result listed under several event IDs of one event). That leaves 630,757 valid results: 354,620 single-athlete and 276,137 team results.

Definitions. Divisions are Open, Pro, Doubles and Pro Doubles; Men and Women are separate for singles only. Percentiles use linear interpolation. "Median" is the 50th percentile; "top 10%" means a finish time at or below the 10th percentile of the division. Season slices are calendar years within a HYROX season (S7 and S8). Roxzone and transitions are derived as finish time minus running minus workout stations. A "result" is one row, so a person who races five times counts five times, except in the repeat-racer finding.

Reproducibility. Every number on this page and every row in the CSV is computed from the cleaned dataset at build time. Sample sizes are shown in the data tables and CSV. No cohort below 500 results is ranked.

Limitations

  • Finishers only. Athletes who did not finish or were disqualified are not in the results, so times look slightly better than the full field.
  • Coverage starts at Season 7. The 2024 slice holds fewer events than later slices, and Season 8 is still running, so season-on-season totals are not a census of the sport.
  • Mixed fields. Cities, dates and entry mixes differ across slices and venues. Trends and venue gaps describe the data, not course difficulty or training effects.
  • Identity matching. Repeat racers are matched on name slug, division and nationality. Different people with the same name and nationality could be merged, and athletes who changed names would be missed.
  • Survivorship and selection. People who race again are not a random sample: they tend to be more committed, and athletes often return after an unusually slow first race. Improvements are best read as "what returners do", not "what training causes".
  • Split data is partial. Run and workout splits are published for most but not all results; the split findings use only rows where they exist and are consistent.
  • Teams have no gender field, so Doubles are not split into men's, women's and mixed.

Frequently asked questions

What is the median HYROX finish time in 2026?

The median HYROX finish is 1:25:55 for Open Men, 1:34:50 for Open Women, 1:19:09 for Pro Men and 1:25:18 for Pro Women. Half of all finishers in each division are faster than these times. The middle 80% of Open Men finish between 1:09:15 and 1:55:03; the equivalent range for Open Women is 1:17:19 to 2:05:55. Doubles teams have a median of 1:23:13 and Pro Doubles 1:13:25.

How many people have finished a HYROX race?

This report covers 630,757 valid finisher results (354,620 single-athlete results and 276,137 team results) across 201 events from Season 7 to August 2026, covering roughly 202,620 distinct single athletes. HYROX finishers grew 276.5% from Season 7 to Season 8 (90,464 to 340,590), but 62.5% more events did most of the lifting: average finishers per event rose only 131.7%.

Do you get faster at HYROX with more races?

Athletes who race again finish a median 1.4 minutes faster in their next race (58% improve, 30% by 5+ minutes), and Open Men who reach a third race are 2.2 minutes faster than they were at the start. 41,505 singles athletes have two or more races in different season slices. By division the median change into race two is Open Men 1.6 minutes faster, Open Women 1.5 minutes faster, Pro Men 0.0 minutes faster, Pro Women 0.1 minutes faster. Gains shrink with experience: Open Men on a third race improved a further 1.2 minutes over race two, after 1.1 minutes from race one to two for that same group.

Is a sub-60 or sub-90 HYROX time good?

Only 0.7% of Open Men finish under 60 minutes, while 59.6% break 90 minutes; for Open Women the sub-90 share is 38.5%. Sub-75 is reached by 22.3% of Open Men and 6.6% of Open Women. Under two hours is 92.4% of Open Men and 86.4% of Open Women.

How many women do HYROX?

Women made up 34.8% of single-athlete finishers in Season 8, up from 30.9% in Season 7, and 36.3% in 2026 races so far.

Where does the time go in a HYROX race: running or the stations?

Running is about half of a HYROX race: 49.0% of the top-10% Open Men finish time and 48.2% at the median, versus 42.9% and 43.6% for the eight workout stations. Of the 18.2 minutes between the top 10% and the median in Open Men, running accounts for 45%, workout stations 46% and Roxzone transitions 11%; relative to their own median, top athletes save 31% in transitions, 23% on stations and 21% on running.

Which HYROX venues are fastest and slowest?

Open Men's median finish varies by 39.8 minutes between venues, from 1:16:15 in Bilbao to 1:56:04 in Mumbai (99 venues with 500+ Open Men finishers). Fastest five: Bilbao 1:16:15, Bologna 1:17:29, Vienna 1:18:00, Mechelen 1:18:21, Manchester 1:18:36. Slowest five: Mumbai 1:56:04, New Delhi 1:55:41, Jakarta 1:44:25, Puebla 1:44:02, Bangkok Ii 1:41:03. Differences mostly reflect who enters each event, such as local depth of competition, first-timer share and qualification effects, and possibly heat, altitude or course layout; they are not a clean measure of course difficulty.
